Concrete driveways in Ringwood, 3134

Concrete driveway installation for Ringwood homes, from the sloping blocks north of Maroondah Highway to the rebuilt homes around Ringwood Lake and the unit developments near Eastland. Every driveway is properly prepped and reinforced with steel mesh. A Maroondah City Council crossover permit may be required.

Ground and slope in Ringwood

Ringwood is undulating, and a large proportion of blocks fall towards the street. On a falling block the driveway grade is set so a standard car does not scrape at the change of level, and the fall is directed to the kerb rather than the garage. The soil is a clay loam that moves seasonally, so the area is prepped, with base material brought in and compacted where needed, before steel mesh and 25 MPa concrete.

Drainage on Ringwood blocks

Where a driveway falls towards the house, a grated drain across the garage threshold is included in the specification and priced with the quote. On steeper sites a broom finish is recommended over a smooth trowel for grip in the wet.

Finishes suited to Ringwood

Exposed aggregate is the most common choice on the rebuilt homes around Ringwood Lake and along the Warrandyte Road side. On the steeper driveways towards Ringwood North, a broom finished plain concrete driveway provides better traction and costs around a third less.

Concrete driveway cost in Ringwood

A standard single driveway in Ringwood is 40 to 50 square metres. Plain concrete with a broom or trowel finish runs $95 to $130 per m², coloured concrete $115 to $160 and exposed aggregate $130 to $185, all supplied and laid with the base preparation described above. Removal of an existing driveway adds $35 per m². A replaced single driveway in exposed aggregate typically falls between $7,500 and $10,000, and the quote issued after the site measure is fixed. The driveway cost guide sets out what moves the price.

Maroondah City Council crossover permits

Ringwood, Croydon, Heathmont and Kilsyth South. Plenty of sloping blocks, so we spend time on the fall and where the water goes. Maroondah will want the crossover to stay clear of street trees and pits.

Maroondah requires a vehicle crossing permit for any new, widened or relocated crossover, built to council specification and inspected.

Process

From enquiry to a driveway you can park on

  1. Enquiry

Call or send the form with the suburb and the type of driveway. A site measure is booked, usually within a few days.

  2. Site measure and fixed quote

Dimensions, fall, access and drainage are assessed on site. A council crossover permit may be required for the street section. The written quote is fixed.

  3. Preparation and pour

Existing surface removed and the area prepped, with base material brought in where needed. Mesh laid, crossover formwork inspected by council, then the pour. Most residential driveways are one day on site.

  4. Cure and seal

Vehicles off for seven days. Exposed aggregate is sealed after the concrete has cured.

Specification

How our driveways are built

Two quotes can look the same on paper and be very different underground. This is what is included in ours. Full specification.

Preparation

The old surface removed and the area prepped, with base material brought in and compacted where the ground needs it. Preparation is where most cheap driveways fail.

Reinforcement

Steel mesh reinforcement and 25 MPa concrete, with a thicker slab and heavier mesh quoted where caravans and trucks will park.

Drainage

A fall away from the house, and a grated drain across the garage threshold where the block falls in.

Joints and cure

Control joints cut to direct any movement. Seven days before vehicles, and exposed aggregate sealed after cure.
